Grants & Sponsorships - Grossmont Healthcare District

Since 1996, the Grossmont Healthcare District has supported various local nonprofit health and wellness organizations through grants and sponsorships to meet the unmet healthcare needs of more than 520,000 in East County. This 2025-26 grant year, we’re increasing our award amount to $4 million to address priority community health needs involving direct, hands-on patient care, emphasizing aging concerns, behavioral health, chronic conditions, and/or factors that contribute to these areas.

Fiscal Year 2025-26 Community Grants & Sponsorships Information

UPDATE: This year’s grant application cycle closed on August 31, 2025. The Board’s Community Grants & Sponsorships Committee is currently reviewing proposals, and anticipates providing the GHD Board of Directors with a set of funding recommendations in early November. The full Board will vote upon those recommendations at a public meeting in December. Submittable records will be updated when the recommendations are confirmed, and a date for the Board’s vote is set. New & Returning Applicants

The grant application window has been shortened from prior years, and the Submittable portal will be open for FY 25-26 from July 1, 2025 to August 31, 2025. Existing grantees are eligible to apply before the end of their current grant year, as long as the requested funding is for a different project. All grant applications will be reviewed by the Community Grants Committee beginning in September, and award announcements are expected in December 2025.

Priority Health Needs for the San Diego East Region

The District emphasizes programs involved in direct, hands-on patient care with a focus on the following areas based on assessments conducted by the County of San Diego, the Hospital Association of San Diego and Imperial Counties, and Sharp HealthCare in conjunction with the District:

Aging Concerns
Conditions that predominantly affect adults ages 65 and older — especially in relation to: transportation, access to fresh food, social isolation and inadequate family support, and economic insecurity.

Behavioral Health (including Mental Health & Substance Use Disorder)
Priorities to address include a lack of availability of needed services and appointments, insurance issues, logistical issues, such as transportation and time off work, and the inability to pay co-pays and deductibles.

Chronic Conditions
Three chronic conditions were identified as priorities: heart disease, cancer, and stroke. Key factors that individuals struggle with to prevent chronic diseases include access to fresh, healthy foods and safe places to exercise and play.
