LA MESA, Calif. (Dec. 17, 2019) – Ready to advance your career in the New Year? The Grossmont Healthcare District now offers new scholarship opportunities worth $71,000 for post-baccalaureate degrees in the fields of behavioral health and registered nursing.

With national student loan debt at an all-time high of $1.5 trillion, the Grossmont Healthcare District has launched the scholarship programs to support continuing education and career advancement.

“There’s no better time than right now to consider pursuing continuing education, especially in two fields of growing demand,” said District President Randy Lenac.

Grossmont Healthcare District will award up to five $10,000 student scholarship for behavioral health professionals, and up to three $7,000 scholarships for the Advanced Registered Nursing program. Application deadlines are Feb. 7, 2020.

The scholarships support healthcare professionals working toward Master’s Degrees and doctorate degrees in their respective fields of focus.

“Studies show that post-graduate degrees pay off in dividends for healthcare professionals,” said District CEO Barry Jantz. “The Grossmont Healthcare District views this as a powerful and important investment in our local economy and healthcare workforce by making higher-paying positions attainable.”

Each year, a portion of the overall grants and sponsorships budget has been allocated for scholarship programs offered to local students living or attending school within GHD boundaries. Although the two advanced degree scholarship programs are new as of 2020, the District has been an active supporter of healthcare education and training through scholarships for the last 20 years.

Existing programs include the Richard J. Bea, RN and Health Tech scholarship awards. There are two nursing scholarships available to local students studying to be a Registered Nurse, winners are eligible for up to $5,000. Students pursuing careers as health technicians are invited to apply for one of five Health Tech Scholarships in the amount of $3,000.

GHD has also recognized local high school students interested in a healthcare career with scholarship grants. Since 1999, hundreds of local high school students have been identified by their schools to receive individual scholarships totaling more than $1 million.
