On Thursday, August 11th, the Grossmont Healthcare District Board of Directors helped “break ground” on the site of the new Sharp Grossmont Hospital Neurosciences Center – a $58 million Sharp HealthCare ENVISION project.
In November of 2021, the GHD Board of Directors unanimously approved a $4 million matching grant to Grossmont Hospital Foundation in support of this project. The $4 million is being dispersed in $1 million increments and helped launch fundraising for the Foundation’s initial, community-driven goal of $10 million.
GHD Board President, Virginia Hall, RN, gave a speech at the event describing key events in the hospital’s history, and expressed gratitude on behalf of the Board of Directors to the team at Grossmont Hospital Foundation and Sharp Grossmont Hospital for creating this opportunity to collaborate and reinvest in the local community.
The new center aims to be “San Diego’s first single center of excellence for patients needing advanced neurosurgical, neurological and comprehensive-spine care. The remodeled space will feature an inpatient progressive care unit, an inpatient rehabilitation unit and a new 16-bed neuro-intensive care unit (Neuro-ICU), as well as complete physical therapy and occupational therapy gymnasium areas.”
The Center will accommodate East San Diego County patients who will no longer need to travel to Los Angeles or farther north for necessary care. The Sharp Grossmont Hospital Neurosciences Center is set to open in Spring 2024.
