California State Assembly member Shirley N. Weber (D-San Diego) recently attended a Grossmont Healthcare District board meeting and presented GHD board members with a certificate of commendation in recognition of the 60th anniversary of Grossmont Hospital, which admitted its first patient in August 1955.
GHD, an East County regional public agency that supports various health-related community programs and services in San Diego’s East County, was formed in 1952 to build and operate Grossmont Hospital in La Mesa. GHD serves as landlord of the publicly owned Grossmont Hospital’s property and buildings on behalf of taxpayers.
Weber said, “I want to commend the Grossmont Healthcare District for their 60 great years of service. They have been a tremendous partner to all of us, and provided a tremendous service.”
Weber also congratulated GHD board members for having vision to anticipate and recognize the unmet health care needs of the communities it serves, which is part of GHD’s mission statement. GHD’s five-member board, each elected to four-year terms, represents more than 500,000 people residing within the District’s 750 square miles.
Weber also recognized GHD’s partnership with Sharp HealthCare, an integrated healthcare delivery system, for the operation of Grossmont Hospital, which ensures continued state-of-the-art patient care services benefitting the residents of the East Region. The successful public-private partnership with GHD and Sharp HealthCare since 1991 has resulted in state-of-the-art, quality patient care at a significant savings to taxpayers.
Weber’s 79th Assembly district includes the cities of Chula Vista, including portions of Otay Ranch and Bonita, National City, Lemon Grove, as well as neighboring Spring Valley, La Mesa and San Diego’s San Carlos and Del Cerro areas. She was first elected to the state Assembly in November 2012. She chairs the Assembly Committee on Budget, Assembly Select Committee on Higher Education in San Diego County and the Assembly Select Committee on Campus Climate She also serves on the Assembly committees on Education, Higher Education and Appropriations.
