Grossmont Healthcare District awards TEN scholarships to students who are currently enrolled in a healthcare-related technical program or who have graduated from a healthcare-related technical program within the past 6 months (as a form of tuition reimbursement), 5 in the amount of $5,250 (1st place) and 5 in the amount of $3,250 (2nd place). (see examples of eligible programs listed below).

Eligibility

New applicants must be able to provide supporting documentation that they have an East County connection. At least one of the following must apply to be eligible for this scholarship:

  1. Applicant is a current resident who lives within the boundaries of the Grossmont Healthcare District (and has been so for at least one year)
  2. Applicant is a current employee who works at an organization within the District boundaries (for at least two years)
  3. OR the applicant has previously graduated from a high school within the District boundaries.

Application Items

The following documentation is required to fill out the application form:

  1. Address: The address confirming applicants’ East County connection, with one of the following acceptable supporting documents:
    • Utility bills: such as electricity, gas, garbage, water, or sewer bills, as well as cable TV or internet bills, and cellular phone bills (within the last 90 days)
    • Bank statements: including online bank statements (within the last 90 days)
    • Lease or rental agreements: Showing your name and current residence address
    • Mortgage statements: Including property tax bills (within the last 90 days)
    • Vehicle registration cards: Including vehicle titles (within the last 90 days)
    • P.O. Box registration (within the last 90 days)
    • Paystub issued by your employer that lists the correct physical address of your work location, as well as the date of hire
    • Signed employment verification letter on official letterhead that includes physical address of your work location, as well as the date of hire
    • High School diploma
    • High School transcript
    • High School Identification Card (student name and photo)
  2. Transcript: Current transcript with course of instruction. Or, in the case of reimbursement, proof of completion within the past 6 months (see eligible programs below). Please contact us at info@grossmonthealthcare.org if your health tech field is not listed to check for eligibility.
  3. Faculty Advisor: Faculty Advisor’s name, phone, and email
  4. Essay: In 500 words or less, please describe a) your career plans in health technology, and b) the contributions you aspire to make within the larger healthcare system as a health technician. The quality of the essay is a key component of the Committee’s evaluation. No AI-generated essays will be accepted.

Note: All of the above must be met or the application will not be eligible for review. Previous recipients of the Health Tech scholarship are not eligible to reapply.

Awards Process & Ceremony Info

Winners will be selected and voted upon at the regular monthly Board of Directors meeting in either late February or early March. They will be contacted shortly thereafter and invited to attend the awards ceremony with other post-secondary and high school scholarship awardees. The ceremony will be held at a Board Meeting in Spring 2026, date TBD, where winners will receive their certificates, have their photos taken with the Board, and be asked to take a group photo at the end. Space is limited in our auditorium, but we encourage all awardees and their friends/family to attend. Photo waivers will need to be completed by the students before the ceremony.
