DESCRIPTION:Hearing loss is one of the most common chronic health conditions\, but many people do not seek help. Barriers include the high cost of hearing aids and confusion about treatment. During this talk\, Dr. Carol Mackersie will review current clinical approaches and will explain emerging options for adults with mild-moderate hearing problems that are lower cost and easier to access. She will share tips about what questions to ask and how to navigate the hearing healthcare landscape. \n\n\nSpeaker: Dr. Mackersie is a Professor Emeritus and the former Audiology Program Director in the School of Speech\, Language and Hearing Sciences at San Diego State University. She worked as a clinical audiologist at Children’s Hospital (San Diego)\, at Columbia Presbyterian (New York) and at SDSU. She received her undergraduate degrees from UC San Diego\, where she double majored in Biology and Psychology and has an area of concentration in French culture. Susan earned her Master of Science degree in Physician Assistant Practice from the Chicago Medical School/Finch University of Health Sciences in 2000. She also received the departmentl thesis research award. She is a member of the California Academy of the Physician Assistants and Society of Dermatology Physician Assistants and completed her dermatology diplomate fellowship in 2020.
