Memory Cafés provide a supportive environment\, often described as a “meet up”\, designed to engage attendees in cognitive activities to perk up memory. \nThe goal of the Glenner Centers’ Memory Cafés is to keep attendees mentally and socially active\, which research shows is protective of brain health. DESCRIPTION:AudAbility™ is an evidence-based program designed by board-certified music therapists at MusicWorx to support people living with Parkinson’s disease and their care partners. Through music therapy and wellness approaches\, we empower individuals to cultivate greater quality of life. AudAbility™ participants engage in music-based interventions including singing\, movement\, instrument play\, songwriting\, and mindfulness. We can help participants improve and maintain critical functions such as speech\, swallowing\, breath capacity\, fine & gross motor skills\, and cognition. We also support social-emotional needs\, and use music therapy to alleviate depression\, anxiety\, and isolation. No music experience is needed to participate! \n\n\nAbout: This program is 12-week session cohort. DESCRIPTION:Go on a Virtual Reality Adventure at the GHD Health & Wellness Library! Using Virtual Reality (VR) technology\, transport yourself to a variety of visually stunning & mentally stimulating environments. Take a walk along the beach\, explore an art museum\, or travel around the world\, without leaving the comfort of the Library. VR technology is used as a tool to cue memories\, stimulate the brain\, and provide positive experiences to support overall mental health. \nParticipants will put on a VR headset (30-minute sessions)\, which completely covers the eyes and immerses the wearer in a 360-degree digital reality to be seen through the lenses of the headset. The headset detects head movement\, allowing the user to be fully immersed in the experience. Simply move the head left or right to discover the surroundings! SUMMARY:AudAbility™- Music Therapy for People Living with Parkinson's Disease
DESCRIPTION:AudAbility™ is an evidence-based program designed by board-certified music therapists at MusicWorx to support people living with Parkinson’s disease and their care partners. Through music therapy and wellness approaches\, we empower individuals to cultivate greater quality of life. AudAbility™ participants engage in music-based interventions including singing\, movement\, instrument play\, songwriting\, and mindfulness. We can help participants improve and maintain critical functions such as speech\, swallowing\, breath capacity\, fine & gross motor skills\, and cognition. We also support social-emotional needs\, and use music therapy to alleviate depression\, anxiety\, and isolation. No music experience is needed to participate! \n\n\nAbout: This program is 12-week session cohort. Memory Cafés provide a supportive environment\, often described as a “meet up”\, designed to engage attendees in cognitive activities to perk up memory. \nThe goal of the Glenner Centers’ Memory Cafés is to keep attendees mentally and socially active\, which research shows is protective of brain health. SUMMARY:AudAbility™- Music Therapy for People Living with Parkinson's Disease
DESCRIPTION:AudAbility™ is an evidence-based program designed by board-certified music therapists at MusicWorx to support people living with Parkinson’s disease and their care partners. Through music therapy and wellness approaches\, we empower individuals to cultivate greater quality of life. AudAbility™ participants engage in music-based interventions including singing\, movement\, instrument play\, songwriting\, and mindfulness. We can help participants improve and maintain critical functions such as speech\, swallowing\, breath capacity\, fine & gross motor skills\, and cognition. We also support social-emotional needs\, and use music therapy to alleviate depression\, anxiety\, and isolation. No music experience is needed to participate! \n\n\nAbout: This program is 12-week session cohort. SUMMARY:Virtual Reality (VR) Adventures
DESCRIPTION:Go on a Virtual Reality Adventure at the GHD Health & Wellness Library! Using Virtual Reality (VR) technology\, transport yourself to a variety of visually stunning & mentally stimulating environments. Take a walk along the beach\, explore an art museum\, or travel around the world\, without leaving the comfort of the Library. VR technology is used as a tool to cue memories\, stimulate the brain\, and provide positive experiences to support overall mental health. \nParticipants will put on a VR headset (30-minute sessions)\, which completely covers the eyes and immerses the wearer in a 360-degree digital reality to be seen through the lenses of the headset. The headset detects head movement\, allowing the user to be fully immersed in the experience. Simply move the head left or right to discover the surroundings! SUMMARY:Wellness Wednesday: Walk More\, Stress Less - Heart Health One Step at a Time
DESCRIPTION:Presented in collaboration with the American Heart Association\nLearn from Dr. Richard Armenta about the stress-relieving and heart-boosting benefits of walking. Gain practical tips\, everything from picking the correct walking shoes\, to the biomechanics of walking and how it benefits one’s overall cardiac fitness\, to incorporate walking into your daily routine for a healthier\, happier life! \nRichard Armenta earned his PhD in Epidemiology at UC San Diego School of Medicine\, Department of Family Medicine and Public Health and San Diego State University Graduate School of Public Health. He is a social epidemiologist with over 15 years of experience conducting research to improve health equity. In his research\, he collaborates with communities to conduct community-driven research that address priorities. He has conducted research on HIV and other infectious diseases and has helped develop and run evidence-based programs to address chronic diseases in underserved communities. Additionally\, Dr. Armenta serves as the Associate Director of the Center for Training\, Research\, and Educational Excellence (CTREE) at CSUSM.
