SUMMARY:AudAbility™: Music Therapy for People Living with Parkinson’s Disease
DESCRIPTION:AudAbility™ is an evidence-based program designed by board-certified music therapists at MusicWorx to support people living with Parkinson’s disease and their care partners. Through music therapy and wellness approaches\, we empower individuals to cultivate a greater quality of life. AudAbility™ participants engage in music-based interventions\, including singing\, movement\, instrument play\, songwriting\, and mindfulness. We can help participants improve and maintain critical functions such as speech\, swallowing\, breath capacity\, fine & gross motor skills\, and cognition. We also support social-emotional needs and use music therapy to alleviate depression\, anxiety\, and isolation. No music experience is needed to participate! \nAbout: This is an 8-week program happening every Thursday beginning October 23\, 2025 – December 18\, 2025. Participants signing up intend to commit to all 8 weeks. No class on Thanksgiving. Previous program participants are able to register. SUMMARY:Wellness Wednesday: What it Means to Participate in a Clinical Trial - A Look into Cancer Research
DESCRIPTION:There are often many questions about clinical trials\, such as when and where one might be an option. Join us for a chance to explore clinical trials and how they can be a treatment option for some patients with cancer. This could be the first type of treatment received\, or one after. You will learn what is involved in a clinical trial including a patient’s journey through various procedures\, assessments\, and what you might experience during enrollment. A question-and-answer portion will follow discussion. \nDanica Griffin is the Lead Clinical Research Specialist in Oncology and has been with Sharp since 2020. Other roles she has held include being a Clinical Research Coordinator in Pediatric Cardiology at Rady Children’s Hospital and a Project Manager and Clinical Research Navigator at Northwestern/ Lurie Children’s Hospital in Chicago. \nMichael Lowry is a Clinical Trials Specialist in Oncology and has been with Sharp since 2020 as well. He works with oncologists to help connect patients to clinical trials and works to remove barriers for study participants and guide them after they are enrolled in a clinical trial. VR technology is used as a tool to cue memories\, stimulate the brain\, and provide positive experiences to support overall mental health. \nParticipants will put on a VR headset (30-minute sessions)\, which completely covers the eyes and immerses the wearer in a 360-degree digital reality to be seen through the lenses of the headset. The headset detects head movement\, allowing the user to be fully immersed in the experience. Simply move the head left or right to discover the surroundings! This is a doable class for all with highly effective healing movements and mindfulness practices.
