DESCRIPTION:Meet and greet with the County of San Diego’s Chief Geriatric Officer\, Dr. Lindsey Yourman MD\, and discuss her vision for elderhood in San Diego County. She will present an overview of strategies to achieve age-friendly health care for you and your loved ones. \nDr. Yourman was motivated to pursue this career during her youth after caring for her grandparents and her volunteer experiences in nursing homes. Her work as a physician has included seeing patients in medical practice\, research\, policy\, and geriatric quality improvement\, all with an age-friendly lens. She graduated from Harvard University with a Major in Psychology\, attended UCSF Medical School\, Scripps Mercy Internal Medicine Residency\, and UCSD for her Geriatrics Fellowship\, where she currently is an affiliated Associate Professor of Geriatrics\, Gerontology\, and Palliative Care. She was the inaugural Medical Director of Geriatrics Quality Improvement at UCSD\, where she led multiple sites to achieve the Institute for Healthcare Improvement’s highest level of Age Friendly Health System recognition. During this talk\, Dr. Carol Mackersie will review current clinical approaches and will explain emerging options for adults with mild-moderate hearing problems that are lower cost and easier to access. She will share tips about what questions to ask and how to navigate the hearing healthcare landscape. \n\n\nSpeaker: Dr. Mackersie is a Professor Emeritus and the former Audiology Program Director in the School of Speech\, Language and Hearing Sciences at San Diego State University. SUMMARY:Wellness Wednesday: Skin Cancer Detection & Prevention
DESCRIPTION:Worried about the sun’s effects on your skin? Learn how to safely enjoy our sunny San Diego weather with a presentation on the most common types of skin cancers\, what you should look for when checking your own skin\, and how to prevent and avoid harmful UV exposure. \nSpeaker: Susan McKim is a board-certified Physician Assistant who has over 14 years of specialized dermatology experience. She received her undergraduate degrees from UC San Diego\, where she double majored in Biology and Psychology and has an area of concentration in French culture. Susan earned her Master of Science degree in Physician Assistant Practice from the Chicago Medical School/Finch University of Health Sciences in 2000. She also received the departmentl thesis research award. She is a member of the California Academy of the Physician Assistants and Society of Dermatology Physician Assistants and completed her dermatology diplomate fellowship in 2020.
