Using Virtual Reality (VR) technology\, transport yourself to a variety of visually stunning & mentally stimulating environments. Take a walk along the beach\, explore an art museum\, or travel around the world\, without leaving the comfort of the Library. VR technology is used as a tool to cue memories\, stimulate the brain\, and provide positive experiences to support overall mental health. \nParticipants will put on a VR headset (30-minute sessions)\, which completely covers the eyes and immerses the wearer in a 360-degree digital reality to be seen through the lenses of the headset. The headset detects head movement\, allowing the user to be fully immersed in the experience. Simply move the head left or right to discover the surroundings! DESCRIPTION:AudAbility™ is an evidence-based program designed by board-certified music therapists at MusicWorx to support people living with Parkinson’s disease and their care partners. Through music therapy and wellness approaches\, we empower individuals to cultivate a greater quality of life. AudAbility™ participants engage in music-based interventions\, including singing\, movement\, instrument play\, songwriting\, and mindfulness. We can help participants improve and maintain critical functions such as speech\, swallowing\, breath capacity\, fine & gross motor skills\, and cognition. We also support social-emotional needs and use music therapy to alleviate depression\, anxiety\, and isolation. This event will explore: \n\nThe health impacts of tobacco and nicotine use on young people\nReal-life story from a community activist who has seen the effects firsthand.\nA breakdown of current tobacco products\, including the wide variety of vapes and flavored options that are popular among youth.\nActionable strategies for families and communities to intervene\, support prevention\, and advocate for healthier environments.\n\nWhether you’re concerned about a loved one\, curious about the latest trends\, or ready to take action\, this conversation is a space to learn\, connect\, and empower change. \nSpeakers:\nHao Howie Tran\, MD\, FACC\, FHFSA\nDr. Tran is a board-certified cardiologist specializing in treating advanced heart failure patients. Dr. Tran is the medical director of the Heart Failure Program\, and the medical director of the Cardiogenic Shock\, Mechanical Circulatory Support\, and Left Ventricular Assist Device programs. He specializes in treating complex cases of heart disease\, leading to heart transplantation or mechanical circulatory support devices. As an associate professor in the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine\, Dr. Tran instructs medical students\, residents and fellows at UC San Diego School of Medicine. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications in heart failure\, left ventricular assist devices\, and heart transplantation\, as well as review articles\, editorials and book chapters. Dr. Tran is a designated fellow of the American College of Cardiology and a fellow of the Heart Failure Society of America. He is the regional president-elect of the American Heart Association for San Diego and Southwest Riverside. He completed medical training in advanced heart failure\, mechanical circulatory support and transplant cardiology at the University of California\, San Diego School of Medicine. He completed a general cardiology fellowship\, residency and internship at Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University. Dr. Tran earned his medical degree from Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia. \nLouise Brandy\, MBA\nLouise is a seasoned technology executive and “serial volunteer” for the American Heart Association\, currently serving as the Giving Society Ambassador for the American Heart Association San Diego & Southwest Riverside\, along with being past Chairs for the 2023 Stroke & Heart Walk\, and 2025 Go Red For Women Luncheon. She is an inspiring speaker\, blending strategic leadership with heartfelt advocacy. Her work is deeply shaped by her marriage to Mycle Brandy\, a four-time stroke survivor who walked across America three times to inspire others to keep up with their recovery. DESCRIPTION:Support the 848\,000 residents in San Diego County who face nutrition insecurity. San Diegans experiencing nutrition insecurity are unable to consistently provide three nutritious meals a day for themselves or their families. Donate to people in need this fall by bringing: canned meats\, canned vegetables\, canned fruits\, peanut butter\, pasta\, rice\, cereal\, and oatmeal to our drop-off bin located in the library. SUMMARY:AudAbility™: Music Therapy for People Living with Parkinson’s Disease
DESCRIPTION:AudAbility™ is an evidence-based program designed by board-certified music therapists at MusicWorx to support people living with Parkinson’s disease and their care partners. Through music therapy and wellness approaches\, we empower individuals to cultivate a greater quality of life. AudAbility™ participants engage in music-based interventions\, including singing\, movement\, instrument play\, songwriting\, and mindfulness. We can help participants improve and maintain critical functions such as speech\, swallowing\, breath capacity\, fine & gross motor skills\, and cognition. We also support social-emotional needs and use music therapy to alleviate depression\, anxiety\, and isolation. No music experience is needed to participate! \nAbout: This is an 8-week program happening every Thursday beginning October 23\, 2025 – December 18\, 2025. Participants signing up intend to commit to all 8 weeks. No class on Thanksgiving. Previous program participants are able to register. Walk your own pace and distance. \nEach walk starts with a brief discussion about a relevant health topic from a Sharp physician. The official group route is about 1.5 mile route around the campus and Briercrest Park.
