DESCRIPTION:Autism Spectrum Disorder currently is diagnosed in 1 in 36 children in the United States. Autism is a complex neurodevelopmental disorder with no known cause or cure. Autism is 4 times more common in boys than girls and impacts all racial\, ethnic\, and socioeconomic groups. During this talk\, you will learn about the diagnosis of autism\, the common symptoms and red flags\, current therapies and interventions\, and ways to support those impacted by autism. There will be information shared about community resources and activities for the autism community. \nSpeaker: Shirley Fett is a long-time volunteer board member with the Autism Society San Diego. Professionally\, she works for the Vista Hill Foundation in several of their programs. She has a Master’s in Community Health Nursing from SDSU and Family Nurse Practitioner Certification from UCSD. She is a Pediatric Mental Health Specialist. She is a frequent lecturer and trainer on autism spectrum disorder for medical professionals and community partners. She is bilingual (English and Spanish) and multicultural\, born and raised in Mexico City to Swiss and American parents. Dr. Falquier worked as a primary care doctor for over 15 years and in 2020 founded Sensations Salud\, which focuses on empowering through nutritional knowledge and culinary literacy by way of Culinary Medicine education and consulting. Dr. Falquier promotes Culinary Medicine throughout San Diego and internationally. She is the proud host of the Culinary Medicine Recipe podcast\, serves on the board of 2 non-profits\, and is a clinical professor at two universities. DESCRIPTION:Cardiovascular Disease\, which includes conditions like ischemic heart disease and stroke\, is a significant global health concern. In the United States\, Cardiovascular Disease is the leading cause of death. Come and hear from a heart expert and experienced cardiac nurse about decreasing the risk of heart disease through lifestyle adjustments\, such as maintaining a balanced diet\, regular physical activity\, and addressing risk factors. If lifestyle modifications aren’t enough\, Sharp Grossmont has a state-of-the-art Cardiovascular program that is tailored to each person. Attendees will hear from Sharp’s very own Director of Cardiac Services about how Sharp Grossmont Hospital cares for our cardiovascular patients. Blood pressure screenings performed by Sharp Grossmont staff will be available 30 minutes before and after the presentation.\n\nPeter Hogan\, MBA\, RCIS has been in the Cardiovascular field since 2008\, when he graduated from Grossmont College’s Invasive Cardiovascular Technology program as a Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist. He spent years in Grossmont’s Cardiac Cath Lab doing patient care\, while pursuing his MBA. Over the years his leadership role has grown and he is now the Director of Cardiovascular Services and ECMO at Sharp Grossmont Hospital. Mr. Hogan is a member of San Diego County cardiovascular advisory committees and an Executive with Heart with the American Heart Association. \nColleen Austel Nadeau has been a Cardiac Nurse for 38 years\, with 35 of those dedicated to serving at Sharp HealthCare. Throughout her extensive career\, she has developed a deep passion for providing care to patients who have Heart Failure. Ms. Nadeau has made contributions to her field through research and multiple publications. SUMMARY:Wellness Wednesday: Understanding Breast Cancer - Risk\, Prevention\, and Screening Education for Everyone
DESCRIPTION:Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer among US women\, affecting about 1 in 8 women during their lifetime. While less common\, breast cancer can also occur in men. The risk for breast cancer increases with age\, so it is especially important for anyone over age 50 to be educated about breast cancer risk. During this talk\, preventive medicine physicians will review breast cancer risk factors\, prevention strategies\, and the variety of current screening guidelines.
