SUMMARY:Wellness Wednesday: Healthy Aging & the Wise Mind
DESCRIPTION:Learn how to achieve healthy aging! We’ll discuss what are the normal changes in mood & sleep patterns as you age\, how to avoid depression\, and when to ask for help. There is an advantage in having specialized care by a geriatric psychiatrist\, and Dr. Yagudayeva has expertise in both the biological and psychological changes that occur with aging. She often works in tandem with a neurologist to evaluate\, diagnose and treat the psychiatric manifestations of dementia. \nSpeaker: Raisa Yagudayeva\, DO\, is a board-certified adult psychiatrist and board-certified geriatric psychiatrist. She completed a fellowship in geriatric psychiatry at UC San Diego School of Medicine and a residency in psychiatry at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center in Boston\, where she served as Chief Resident. She earned her doctorate in osteopathic medicine from New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine. She has clinical expertise in treating older adults with a variety of psychiatric illnesses\, from neurobehavioral symptoms of dementia to chronic psychotic disorders. DESCRIPTION:Autism Spectrum Disorder currently is diagnosed in 1 in 36 children in the United States. Autism is a complex neurodevelopmental disorder with no known cause or cure. Autism is 4 times more common in boys than girls and impacts all racial\, ethnic\, and socioeconomic groups. During this talk\, you will learn about the diagnosis of autism\, the common symptoms and red flags\, current therapies and interventions\, and ways to support those impacted by autism. There will be information shared about community resources and activities for the autism community. \nSpeaker: Shirley Fett is a long-time volunteer board member with the Autism Society San Diego. In the United States\, Cardiovascular Disease is the leading cause of death. Come and hear from a heart expert and experienced cardiac nurse about decreasing the risk of heart disease through lifestyle adjustments\, such as maintaining a balanced diet\, regular physical activity\, and addressing risk factors. If lifestyle modifications aren’t enough\, Sharp Grossmont has a state-of-the-art Cardiovascular program that is tailored to each person. Attendees will hear from Sharp’s very own Director of Cardiac Services about how Sharp Grossmont Hospital cares for our cardiovascular patients. Blood pressure screenings performed by Sharp Grossmont staff will be available 30 minutes before and after the presentation.\n\nPeter Hogan\, MBA\, RCIS has been in the Cardiovascular field since 2008\, when he graduated from Grossmont College’s Invasive Cardiovascular Technology program as a Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist. He spent years in Grossmont’s Cardiac Cath Lab doing patient care\, while pursuing his MBA. Over the years his leadership role has grown and he is now the Director of Cardiovascular Services and ECMO at Sharp Grossmont Hospital. Mr. Hogan is a member of San Diego County cardiovascular advisory committees and an Executive with Heart with the American Heart Association. \nColleen Austel Nadeau has been a Cardiac Nurse for 38 years\, with 35 of those dedicated to serving at Sharp HealthCare.
