SUMMARY:Wellness Wednesday: Walk More\, Stress Less - Heart Health One Step at a Time
DESCRIPTION:Presented in collaboration with the American Heart Association\nLearn from Dr. Richard Armenta about the stress-relieving and heart-boosting benefits of walking. Gain practical tips\, everything from picking the correct walking shoes\, to the biomechanics of walking and how it benefits one’s overall cardiac fitness\, to incorporate walking into your daily routine for a healthier\, happier life! \nRichard Armenta earned his PhD in Epidemiology at UC San Diego School of Medicine\, Department of Family Medicine and Public Health and San Diego State University Graduate School of Public Health. He is a social epidemiologist with over 15 years of experience conducting research to improve health equity. In his research\, he collaborates with communities to conduct community-driven research that address priorities. He has conducted research on HIV and other infectious diseases and has helped develop and run evidence-based programs to address chronic diseases in underserved communities. Additionally\, Dr. Armenta serves as the Associate Director of the Center for Training\, Research\, and Educational Excellence (CTREE) at CSUSM. Having a full time Chief Dental Officer is a new role for the County and it demonstrates the County’s commitment to improving oral health throughout the lifespan for all San Diegans. She received her undergraduate degree at the University of Pittsburgh and her Doctor of Dental Medicine degree at the University of Pennsylvania. She went on to complete her pediatric dental residency at Lutheran Medical Center in Brooklyn\, NY and stayed in the New York City metropolitan area practicing in a private practice until moving to San Diego in 2013 where she began working at a community health center. She then went on to complete her Master of Public Health degree at A.T. Still University with a dental emphasis. She is a diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry and a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. She is an advisory board member for the Anderson Center for Oral Health. She is also on faculty with the NYU Langone Health Pediatric Dental Residency Program affiliated with San Ysidro Health and on medical staff with Rady Children’s Hospital. She has authored numerous publications including an article on COVID-19 and its impact on dental utilization in a pediatric emergency room and urgent care setting and her most recent publication on harm reduction in the dental profession. Glenner Alzheimer’s Family Centers\, Inc.\, including Program Director at Town Square®- Chula Vista Adult Day Health Care Program and her current roles of Memory Cafe Director and GLENNERCARE™ Social Worker. Shannon previously worked as an activity leader and then social worker in a skilled nursing facility.
