DESCRIPTION:Love Your Heart Week is an annual event in which organizations from across the U.S. and Mexico join together to provide FREE blood pressure screenings to the public on or near Valentine’s Day. The event brings together community partners to prevent heart disease and stroke and empowers the public to take control of their heart health\, know their blood pressure numbers\, and know what they mean. SUMMARY:Wellness Wednesday: Prevention & Treatment of Cardiovascular Disease with experts from Sharp Grossmont Hospital
DESCRIPTION:Cardiovascular Disease\, which includes conditions like ischemic heart disease and stroke\, is a significant global health concern. In the United States\, Cardiovascular Disease is the leading cause of death. Come and hear from a heart expert and experienced cardiac nurse about decreasing the risk of heart disease through lifestyle adjustments\, such as maintaining a balanced diet\, regular physical activity\, and addressing risk factors. If lifestyle modifications aren’t enough\, Sharp Grossmont has a state-of-the-art Cardiovascular program that is tailored to each person. Attendees will hear from Sharp’s very own Director of Cardiac Services about how Sharp Grossmont Hospital cares for our cardiovascular patients. Blood pressure screenings performed by Sharp Grossmont staff will be available 30 minutes before and after the presentation.\n\nPeter Hogan\, MBA\, RCIS has been in the Cardiovascular field since 2008\, when he graduated from Grossmont College’s Invasive Cardiovascular Technology program as a Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist. He spent years in Grossmont’s Cardiac Cath Lab doing patient care\, while pursuing his MBA. Over the years his leadership role has grown and he is now the Director of Cardiovascular Services and ECMO at Sharp Grossmont Hospital. Mr. Hogan is a member of San Diego County cardiovascular advisory committees and an Executive with Heart with the American Heart Association. \nColleen Austel Nadeau has been a Cardiac Nurse for 38 years\, with 35 of those dedicated to serving at Sharp HealthCare. Throughout her extensive career\, she has developed a deep passion for providing care to patients who have Heart Failure. Ms. Nadeau has made contributions to her field through research and multiple publications. DESCRIPTION:Using rhythm as the source of inspiration to discover a new group fitness experience Drums Alive® combines the benefits of a traditional physical fitness program with the brain-affected benefits of music and rhythm. Drums Alive® is a program that fosters a healthy balance physically\, mentally\, emotionally\, and socially!   \nMusicWorx’s Drums Alive® music therapists will facilitate interactive drumming fitness exercises. Rhythm\, movement\, and singing activities are designed for all ages and abilities. The therapists will guide participants through rhythm\, stretching\, and music-making exercises that they can do at home with their families. \nWhen: Every 1st Wednesday | 10-11 AM\nWhere: Briercrest Park (9001 Wakarusa St. La Mesa\, CA 91942)\nRegister: Call 619.825.5010\, email library@grossmonthealthcare.org\, or visit in person to reserve your spot. \n\nInterested participants may call\, email\, or sign up in person promptly after the previous session of the class has ended.  \n\nEx. I want to sign up for Drums Alive from 10-11 AM on 2/1. We’re only adding names to our registration list after the previous session of Drums Alive on 1/4 has ended. Give us a call after 11 AM and we’ll gladly add you to our list or waitlist if all spots have been filled.\n\nThis is a GHD-sponsored program with priority given to people who live\, work\, attend school\, or have a health-related connection to East County.
