November 2010 General Election Results
Two current members of the Grossmont Healthcare District (GHD) board of directors have been reelected by East County voters to additional four-year terms. With all 383 precincts counted from the November 2010 general election, Michael T. Long and Gloria A. Chadwick retained their seats. Long received 58,007 votes, or 49.96 percent, and Chadwick received 57,126 votes, or 46.25 percent.
Long has served on the board since May 2008. The El Cajon resident was elected in November 2008 to serve the remaining two years of a seat held by the late Dr. John Hardebeck, who passed away in April 2008. Long is a retired neurologist who practiced for 40 years locally as an active member of the medical staff at Grossmont Hospital. He retired in 2006. He served as Chief of the Medical Staff in 1987, and served as a Medical Staff Executive in support of the Chiefs-of-Staff from 1988 to 2006.
Chadwick has served on the GHD board since 1988, when she was the first woman to be elected to the board in 22 years. In 2000, she was the first woman to serve as Board President. The Dehesa Valley resident retired as a psychiatric nurse after a 44-year career of working in the healthcare profession. She was reelected in 2002 and 2006.
The Grossmont Healthcare District is a taxpayer-supported public agency that serves as landlord of Grossmont Hospital, including ownership of the property and buildings, on behalf of local taxpayers. The District was formed in 1952 to build and operate Grossmont Hospital. In 1991, the District leased the hospital's operation to Sharp HealthCare under a 30-year lease that runs through the year 2021. The District is governed by a five-member board of directors, each elected to four-year terms, who represent nearly 500,000 people residing within the District's 750 square miles in San Diego's East County. GHD also operates the Dr. William C. Herrick Community Health Care Library, a public library specializing in health research information, located at 9001 Wakarusa St. in La Mesa.
