News from the Grossmont Healthcare District

The Grossmont Healthcare District (GHD) board of directors has unanimously approved a $9,000 grant to Trauma Intervention Programs (TIP) of San Diego County, Inc., a non-profit organization that provides free emotional first-aid and support to citizens in crisis following a tragic accident.

According to TIP, specially trained TIP volunteers generally arrive at an accident scene within 30 minutes of the tragedy and provide personal, individual support to traumatized individuals, often following the death of a loved one. TIP volunteers also provide relief to emergency first-responder personnel who are not able to stay a lengthy period of time with traumatized individuals in order to ensure their emotional well-being.

TIP officials said its volunteers respond to approximately 25-to-30 calls per month, and assist more than 900 East County residents annually.

The Grossmont Healthcare District, a public agency in San Diego's East County region, supports various health-related community programs and services in San Diego's East County region and serves as landlord of Grossmont Hospital on behalf of local taxpayers. The District, formed in 1952, is governed by a five-member board of directors, each elected to four-year terms, who represent nearly 500,000 people residing within the District's 750 square miles in San Diego's East County.
