News from the Grossmont Healthcare District

The Grossmont Healthcare District (GHD) board of directors has unanimously approved a $50,000 grant to the John A. Davis YMCA, 8881 Dallas St., in La Mesa, to purchase a variety of new fitness equipment that's specially designed to improve flexibility and strength for active older adults. YMCA officials said their budget calls for the purchase of another $100,000 in fitness equipment, in addition to the $50,000 GHD grant. The new fitness equipment is part of a $1.9 million capital improvement project for the YMCA facility.

Plans call for the renovation and demolition of a portion of the existing 17,000-square-foot facility that was built in 1964, and the addition of a new 10,730-square-foot, multi-function building to feature exercise equipment, group exercise classes, lectures and club meetings. Completion of construction is scheduled for September 2007. YMCA officials says its Davis facility currently has 2,400 members.

The Grossmont Healthcare District, a public agency in San Diego's East County region, supports various health-related community programs and services in San Diego's East County region and serves as landlord of Grossmont Hospital on behalf of local taxpayers. The District, formed in 1952, is governed by a five-member board of directors, each elected to four-year terms, who represent nearly 500,000 people residing within the District's 750 square miles in San Diego's East County.
