The Grossmont Healthcare District (GHD), a public agency that supports various health-related community programs and services in San Diego’s East County, has agreed to provide funding that will enable 10,000 local residents to receive a free Vial of L.I.F.E. container that holds pertinent medical information for quick retrieval by emergency medical personnel.
The GHD board of directors recently approved a $15,000 grant to the El Cajon Foundation, a (501)(c)(3) non-profit affiliated with the San Diego East County Chamber of Commerce. The GHD grant will fund the purchase of 10,000 Vial of L.I.F.E. containers, which will be distributed by fire departments in the East County.
L.I.F.E., an acronym for “Lifesaving Information For Emergencies,” is a nationally recognized program that has been credited for saving countless lives. It allows individuals to provide medical information in advance, such as information relating to allergies to medications and other critical information, which would be helpful to emergency personnel and other first-responders as they treat people in distress at their homes. Typically, people with heart, seizure or respiratory conditions will adhere their plastic Vial of L.I.F.E. container – about the size of a small pill bottle – to a refrigerator door or inside the refrigerator on a top shelf and then attach a sticker or magnet label to the outside top corner of the refrigerator or a front door or wiGHD provides funding for 10,000 Vial of L.I.F.E. containers.ndow to alert emergency personnel.
The Grossmont Healthcare District is governed by a five-member board of directors, each elected to four-year terms, who represent nearly 500,000 people residing within the District’s 750 square miles in San Diego’s East County. Formed in 1952 to build and operate Grossmont Hospital in La Mesa, the District serves as serves as landlord of the hospital, including ownership of the property and buildings on behalf of local taxpayers.
