Board President (Zone 4: Alpine, Lakeside, Descanso, Pine Valley)

Gloria Chadwick is a native San Diegan, who graduated from Lincoln High School and moved to Dehesa in 1973 with her husband Steve to enjoy the rural lifestyle that was filled with 4-H and Future Farmers of America activities for their two children. Her 44-year nursing career began at age 19, and she holds an Associate Degree in Nursing from Grossmont College and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from CSU Dominguez Hills. Gloria worked in various roles as a nurse’s aide, a school health aide, and an office nurse, and served as Dulzura School District’s Registered Nurse (RN), and Cuyamaca College’s RN. She worked at Mercy Hospital and eventually retired as a psychiatric nurse from the VA Hospital in La Jolla in 2008. She still holds a currently active license, which came in handy for giving COVID-19 immunizations during the recent pandemic.

Community has been at the heart of all of Gloria’s service. She’s held continuous political office since 1992 as a school board member and healthcare district director. Gloria has served on the Board of Directors for the Grossmont Healthcare District since 1998. In 2000, she became the first woman to serve as Board President, and she was reelected in 2002, 2006, 2010, 2014 and 2018, and 2022. She values the connections of local governments and enjoys working for a healthier future for East County.

For three years Gloria wrote weekly columns for The Daily Californian and the Lakeside Back Country Trader. She is a member of a variety of community clubs and associations. Service awards include the 2005 “Silver Healthcare Communicators of San Diego” (a co-awardee), the 2010 San Diego East County Chamber of Commerce’s “Women in Leadership” award (for healthcare), and she was named the East County Chamber of Commerce’s 2014 “Public Service Person of the Year.”

In addition to her interest in health, Gloria is an award-winning international artist, and her work has been featured in movies, zoos, books, and various competitions. She firmly believes in the therapeutic value of art.

Robert “Bob” Ayres

Board Vice President (Zone 5: Rancho San Diego, El Cajon, Jamul)

Robert “Bob” Ayres is a retired banking executive with 48 years of experience in both public and private-sector banking, construction financing, and court-appointed receiverships. He joined the GHD board in September 2010 to fill a vacancy and was then elected to three four-year terms in 2012, 2016, and 2020. He currently serves as Board Vice President, chair of the Finance Committee for the Grossmont Hospital Corporation, and is a member of the Finance Committees for Sharp HealthCare. Prior to joining the Board, Ayres served on the GHD Proposition G Independent Citizens’ Bond Oversight Committee (ICBOC), which oversees the District’s $247 million bond measure approved by voters to modernize Grossmont Hospital. He is a resident of El Cajon and is a graduate of San Diego State University and Southern Methodist University’s Graduate School of Banking. Bob and his wife Elaine have been married since 1966, and have two daughters and two grandchildren.

Board Secretary (Zone 1: Santee)

Retired Registered Nurse Virginia Hall was elected to the Board in November 2016, finishing first in a field of six candidates. A nursing school graduate of Grossmont College (1978), Virginia worked in healthcare from 1973 to 2004. Her nursing background includes working in several local hospitals, emergency rooms, clinics, and research facilities. She has participated on research boards, presented at several national nursing conferences, and has been published in medical publications. Since 2003, Virginia has worked in real estate and has been active in the community of Santee, including serving as the 2016 president of the Santee Chamber of Commerce. Her husband, Ronn, has served as a member of the Santee City Council since November 2014.

Board Treasurer (Zone 3: La Mesa)

A Registered Ophthalmic Dispenser, Michael A. Emerson, RDO, is certified by the State Board of Medical Quality Assurance of the California Medical Board and has owned Hart Optical Company of La Mesa since 1987. He was appointed to the GHD Board in May 2008, was elected to a four-year term in November 2008, and was reelected in November 2012, 2016, and 2020. Prior to joining the GHD board, he served on the Grossmont Hospital Corporate Board beginning in March 2007. He has served on the GHD board as chair of the GHD Proposition G General Obligation Bond Committee, Finance/Audit Committee, and Government Relations Committee. Emerson also has served in numerous offices at both the local and state levels as a member of the La Mesa Kiwanis Club and the La Mesa Optimist Club. He served as Lieutenant Governor of the California South District of Optimist International and served on the board of the California Special Districts Association, San Diego chapter. A firm proponent of continuing education, Emerson has completed Advanced Government Finance at the University of Wisconsin School of Business in Madison, Wisconsin, and the Special District Leadership and Management Certification Program offered by the California Special District Association and Local Government Institute. He also has served as a volunteer martial arts instructor at the YMCA Davis facility in La Mesa. Mr. Emerson served for two years in the U.S. Army, including at the Optometry Clinic at Irwin Army Hospital in Ft. Riley, Kansas.

Randy Lenac

Randy Lenac

Board Member (Zone 2: Campo, Potrero, Spring Valley, Lemon Grove)

Randy Lenac, with executive management experience in administration, finance, program development, and strategy, joined the GHD board in July 2014 to fill a vacancy and was later elected to a four-year term in November 2014 and again in 2018. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1975 to 2002, retiring as a lieutenant colonel. After his military career, he transitioned to healthcare as an executive with Southern Indian Health Council in Alpine. Since 2011, he has served on the board of the Grossmont Hospital Corporation (GHC), a non-profit entity that oversees the management and operation of Grossmont Hospital under a lease with Sharp HealthCare.  A resident of Campo, Lenac is a cattle rancher who operates Big Springs Ranch. He earned a bachelor’s degree (summa cum laude) from the University of Washington and a master’s degree in business administration (with honors) from Webster University of St. Louis.
